January 2026 : Marking a massive leap in its decades-long partnership with India, Airbus officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art India Technology Centre in Bengaluru. The sprawling 880,000 sq. ft. campus is now Airbus’ largest engineering and digital hub outside of Europe, designed to house 5,000 employees and serve as the central nervous system for the company’s "Make in India" mission.
The facility was inaugurated by Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, Shri. D.K. Shivakumar, and Industries Minister, Shri. M.B. Patil, with a virtual address from Union Civil Aviation Minister, Shri. Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu. This consolidation brings engineering, digital transformation, customer services, and procurement under one roof.
The center isn't just about local operations; it is deeply woven into the lifecycle of every Airbus aircraft globally. From pioneering research in AI and robotics to maintaining existing commercial fleets, the Bengaluru campus ensures that Indian innovation powers the future of aerospace.
Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus in India and South Asia, highlighted the strategic weight of the new site: “The inauguration of the ‘Airbus India Technology Centre’ represents a strategic acceleration in our journey in India - it provides the scale and headroom for our next phase of growth. This centre will allow us to scale existing technological competencies and innovation ecosystems while also addressing the customer services and procurement dimensions of our ‘Make in India’ mission. It ensures that Indian expertise continues to be woven into every stage of our global value chain.”
Airbus has more than tripled its annual sourcing from India - from US$500 million in 2019 to over US$1.5 billion today - and is on track to exceed US$2 billion well before 2030. The hub also hosts a chapter of the Airbus Leadership University, dedicated to grooming the next generation of aerospace leaders under the ‘Skill India’ initiative.
