March 2026 : In the high-octane world of global operations, few leaders command the shop floor and the boardroom with as much grace and grit as Aditi Sharma. Currently the Chief Manufacturing Excellence Officer at Uno Minda Group, Aditi’s three-decade-long journey reads like a masterclass in industrial transformation. From the precision of Ford and GE to the scale of Schneider Electric and Cummins, she has consistently turned complex supply chains into agile, future-ready ecosystems.

As part of Pro MFG Media’s year-long Women Aces of Manufacturing initiative, we’re now with this mechanical engineering leader who views Industry 4.0 not just as a tech upgrade, but as the ultimate "art of the possible." In this exclusive feature, Aditi opens up about her early days defying conventions, the critical role of human empathy in a world of AI, and her mission to pave a smoother path for the next generation of women leaders in Indian manufacturing.

What inspired you to pursue a career in manufacturing ?
I have always been deeply curious about how things work - and, more importantly, how they are made. That curiosity naturally drew me towards manufacturing, where the excitement of creating machines and bringing ideas to life is unparalleled. There is a unique satisfaction in building something from scratch and seeing it evolve into a fully functioning reality.
At the same time, manufacturing - especially mechanical engineering - was a path less explored and less welcoming for women when I began my journey. That, in itself, became a source of motivation. It inspired me to take the first step, challenge conventions, and pursue a career as a mechanical engineer.

What is one leadership lesson manufacturing taught you?
Manufacturing has instilled in me a deep sense of discipline, rigorous process adherence, and a data-driven mindset. Equally, it has shaped my empathy toward the workforce - recognizing that people are at the core of operational excellence.
I have learned that clarity is the single biggest driver of performance. Clear expectations, consistent follow-through, and leading from the front are essential, as even the smallest gaps in communication can significantly impact outcomes on the shop floor.

What keeps you committed to the manufacturing sector despite challenges?
I believe challenges are everywhere - but I consciously choose to see them as opportunities. With India rapidly emerging as a global manufacturing hub, this is where the real energy and excitement lie.

What inspires me further is the immense untapped potential in this space. The art of the possible - through digital, AI/ML, and other emerging technologies - combined with the enduring importance of human capability, creates a uniquely powerful environment for transformation.

Manufacturing is my alma mater. I thrive on its energy and challenges, and over the years, I have deeply invested myself in this space - earning both growth and recognition along the way.
Equally, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to role model manufacturing as a compelling and rewarding career choice for women, and to help pave the way for greater inclusion in this field.

Which competencies are most critical for women to thrive in plant operations?
Technical depth, execution discipline, and clear communication are non-negotiable.
Resilience, strong people leadership, and a data-driven mindset - and most importantly, the confidence to lead and challenge the status quo

A moment in your career that made you most proud?
My journey has been deeply enriching, making it difficult to single out one defining moment of pride. However, the recognitions that stand out most are those where my journey or demeanor has inspired others. Those moments both humble me and reinforce a greater sense of responsibility.

What is one misconception about women in manufacturing you would like to break?
One misconception is that manufacturing isn’t suited for women. I’ve experienced firsthand that success in this space is defined by capability, mindset, and leadership - not gender. Diversity in perspective strengthens teams and drives better outcomes.

What advice would you give young women entering manufacturing today?
Focus on building strong fundamentals and stay closely connected to the shop floor. Take ownership early, remain consistent in delivery, and speak up. We need to define our own career path .

How do you see the impact of AI in the manufacturing industry?
AI will enhance predictive decision-making, improve quality systems, and drive efficiency. Its true potential, however, will be realized when combined with robust processes and skilled human judgment.

In one sentence: what does being a "Woman Ace of Manufacturing" mean to you ?
Leading with excellence, breaking stereotypes through performance, inspiring others to thrive in manufacturing, and quietly opening doors for more women to believe they belong here too.
