June 2022 : Headed straight toward alternative electric age: Covestro is creating imaginative PUR tars for use in wind turbine rotor sharp edges at its new Wind Technology Center. A shared benefit wins circumstance for Covestro, clients, and the climate.

Klaus Franken, Head of Application Development Wind and Pultrusion at Covestro explained more, "The development of these resins is very important to us. After all, it contributes to the expansion of alternative energies and strengthens our strategic orientation to sustainably reduce the CO2 footprint and take even more steps towards climate neutrality.”

Further adding he said, "To be competitive, the wind industry faces the constant challenge of reducing the Levelized Cost of Electricity. We can help here by enabling our customers to produce rotor blades faster and thus more cost-effectively. At the same time, higher energy yield through optimized blade properties and longer service life also play a role."

One objective of the Wind Technology Center is to foster powerful materials that consolidate the properties significant for rotor edges, like strength, firmness and temperature opposition. Existing items are consistently advanced and totally new details are created and tried.

Covestro connects extraordinary significance to ideally fitting its items to the necessities of its clients. To that end various helpful endeavors with European and Asian breeze turbine producers are now set up. The emphasis here is on developing and testing models.

The super-advanced focus is situated in Leverkusen and was finished and placed into activity toward the start of this current year. It involves two interconnected units: a lab region for substance improvement and an Upscaling Plant. The last option is home to handling innovation and application advancement.

Technical Center Manager Frank Grimberg explained the clear advantages of the center, "Chemical development and application technology can work hand in hand here. On top of that, the physical proximity makes it easier to exchange information directly and quickly. We use identical resources and the same infrastructure and quickly obtain a comprehensive depiction of the process. This helps us to pursue our goals in a results-oriented manner and without losing knowledge, and enables us to offer new, innovative solutions to our customers.”

One more viewpoint: with the creative innovation place, Covestro is expanding its appeal as a business. For sure, wind innovation offers a large number of new, intriguing fields of work that stir interest and proposition variety. Covestro has taken on a recently qualified synthetic specialist from its own preparation program to work the machines. He is seriously prepared in the cycles and machine innovation.
