Pro MFG Media had a candid conversation with Shree Harsha, Dassault Systemes India, about India’s Industry 4.0 landscape, best practices and of course the transformation stories. Here is a rundown of how Dassault Systemes has now become an integral part of the Indian manufacturing ecosystem.

The first thing that comes to our minds when we speak about Dassault is the Rafale fighter jet. Apart from building cutting edge aircraft, Dassault group has another subsidiary that has become the harbinger of industrial transformation by adapting the modelling and virtualization techniques to real-life businesses at least for 25 years. It might come as a surprise but Dassault Systemes’ one of first consulting/collaboration assignments was with Boeing, modelling an entire aeroplane on a computer and simulating its real-world performance as far as 25 years ago!

Since then, Dassault Systemes has worked in sync with over 1900 large scale production systems we like to call mega factories. They have incorporated their learnings over the decades and applied their knowledge in developing new systems and software that together build Industry 4.0. It has been quite a few years since Dassault Systemes has forayed in India.

How organizations can benefit from various digitalization technologies that are existing? Where do they start? And how do they see the benefit? And what's the earliest they can start seeing benefit for the investments and what kind of the rescaling of the teams required to get the best out of the technology implementation?

We, at Dassault Systemes, have enabled various industries including aerospace, automotive and industrial equipment across geographies with our 3DEXPERIENCE platform. We have also extended our assistance to the game-changer start-up ecosystem. Tech-enabled start-ups enabled companies are the market disruptors redefining the rules of engagement, and usage of technologies available on the cloud. Digitizing the PLM process results in faster delivery of products to the market in the least measured time. Compared to the earlier times of teams working from the same location, this is the age of SMAC - Social, Mobile, Analytics, and Cloud. With the help of digital technologies, a team can include a designer sitting in any part of the world working with the team in Bangalore or Pune and deliver the product in less than 10 months. Dassault Systemes help their customers virtualize their entire new product development process and planning.

In the beginning, the digitizing setup costs might seem high, but when companies weigh the actual savings in costs, the increase in productivity, and the overall saving of time, the math turns out to be profitable. It comprises the entire framework, from design to virtual testing, to managing the supply chain, the production, and even sales/marketing. The companies can start seeing the benefit for the investments in digitizing in a time frame of 8 to 10 months from installation.

Why business agility has become business critical in a post-pandemic world?

In this period of extreme disruption, being agile in how companies operate is more important than ever – and the cloud can help them realize it. As organizations worldwide adapt to market fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and other issues in the wake of the global pandemic, business agility is critical. Cloud solutions not only give business flexibility and greater resiliency but encourage a more agile mindset across an organization. Here are seven key ways a cloud-based solution can help a company adapt and thrive: Scalability, Competitiveness, Profitability, Innovation, Reactivity, Sustainability, and Security. No matter the industry, a shared online environment, like the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, where data is instantly accessible and updated as projects progress and collaboration can happen any time and any place, gives organizations the agility they need to navigate the ongoing complexities of the current crisis and emerge stronger at the other end.

How Dassault Systemes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud aids sustainable innovation?

A leader in sustainable innovation, Dassault Systèmes delivers digital technologies, which have helped companies make headway in areas such as energy transition, sustainable mobility, and in the creation of intelligent cities designed to satisfy the evolving needs of the urban citizen. Its solutions simulate real-world experiences that help people foresee the impact of their decisions and allow them to make the necessary adjustments. In the face of dire statistics, repeated climate warnings, and dying ecosystems, it is encouraging to know that ground-breaking and promising alternatives, which can save our ailing planet, exist.

As a part of Dassault Systemes’ mission statement, we always focus on the three-axis - people, planet, and profit. It's the people who work, we help them to model their design processes including manufacturing, and processing the virtual world. We ensure that the usage of fewer resources in the manufacturing process and then suggest the best quality of designs reducing cost.

We apply artificial intelligence toolsets to work on data and provide predictions in terms of what are the potential parts that might malfunction, given the number of cycles they've been putting. We apply predictive analysis for data interpretation, where machine learning algorithms provide us mechanisms to decipher this data. We provide insights helping us activating a predictive maintenance perspective. We are applying the same blueprint for the automotive sector at present. Currently, we are working with one of the largest Motorcycle makers in India, wherein we are helping them with traceability on the shop floor.
