This milestone shows that sustainability and business performance can advance together to create long-term value.” - Bappa Bandyopadhyay, Director Operations & Projects India - Henkel Adhesive Technologies
June 2026 : Working towards its 2030 sustainability targets, Henkel Adhesive Technologies has officially eliminated Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions at two of its flagship manufacturing sites in Kurkumbh, India, and Gebkim, Türkiye. By completely phasing out fossil fuels, fully electrifying operations, and transitioning to 100% renewable energy, both factories now serve as global blueprints for scalable industrial decarbonization.
Realizing this milestone required a massive, ground-up transformation of existing infrastructure. At the Kurkumbh plant in India, engineering teams successfully replaced traditional furnace oil-based thermic fluid heaters with advanced, high-efficiency electric systems. Supported by upgraded electrical capacity and optimized heat exchangers, the site eliminated roughly 11,300 tons of CO2 equivalent. Meanwhile, the Gebkim plant in Türkiye pulled off a similar feat by swapping out its natural gas-fired boiler for a high-efficiency electric alternative, cutting 956 tons of CO2 equivalent annually. Both sites coupled these upgrades with 100% renewable electricity sourced via onsite solar and International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs).
The human effort behind these technical achievements underscores a deeper corporate shift toward responsible manufacturing.
“Achieving carbon-neutral production at two of our key Flagship sites in IMEA is a strong step forward in delivering on Henkel Adhesive Technologies’ global sustainability ambitions,” commented Simon Ulmann, Vice President Supply Chain & Operations IMEA at Henkel Adhesive Technologies. “Our ambition is clear: we are systematically eliminating fossil fuels from all our operations and replacing them with electrified processes powered by renewable energy. Our manufacturing milestones in both Kurkumbh and Gebkim show how we can translate our strategy into tangible impact at site level, accelerating our journey toward net-zero operations.”
Ultimately, these milestones prove that heavy industry can decouple economic growth from environmental degradation while continuing to deliver high-performance solutions for global customers.
“Achieving carbon neutrality at our Kurkumbh site underscores our strong commitment to sustainable growth, responsible manufacturing, and operational excellence,” said Bappa Bandyopadhyay, Director Operations & Projects India at Henkel Adhesive Technologies. “Through renewable energy adoption and continuous efficiency improvements, we have significantly reduced our carbon footprint while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance. This milestone shows that sustainability and business performance can advance together to create long-term value.”
“The transformation of our Gebkim Plant is a concrete example of how electrification can fundamentally change industrial operations. By moving to a fully electric system and renewable energy, we have eliminated fossil fuel usage completely, demonstrating what is possible when innovation, technology, strong teamwork and dedication come together,” added Mehmet Yılmaz, Director Operations & Projects Middle-East & Africa at Henkel Adhesive Technologies.
