September 2026 : Rockwell Automation is tackling the stubborn challenge of manufacturing defects by injecting a powerful dose of artificial intelligence directly into the quality control process.

The industrial automation giant recently rolled out a seamless, API-enabled integration that weds its Plex Quality Management System (QMS) with FactoryTalk Analytics VisionAI. This move represents a fundamental shift in how modern manufacturers catch, track, and eliminate production mistakes.

Human eyes, while incredible, inevitably get tired. Traditional visual inspections hover at roughly 80% effectiveness and rarely leave a comprehensive, searchable paper trail. By pulling AI-driven visual inspection capabilities directly into everyday QMS workflows, Rockwell's new integration identifies anomalies using both existing and new factory camera systems. Crucially, the system permanently records the results. This creates an airtight history of inspections, ensuring complete product serialization and traceability that human-driven processes simply cannot match.

This integration is part of a broader, aggressive push into artificial intelligence. Rockwell recently introduced an AI-powered authoring agent within the Plex Connected Worker suite. This tool acts as a digital translator, seamlessly converting dense CAD files and complex technical assets into highly structured, step-by-step instructions for frontline employees. Additionally, users can now interact with natural language AI agents embedded in Plex's reporting dashboards to predict operational risks and drive faster decisions with a single click.
