Sajjan Jindal appointed chairman of World Steel Association

October 2021: The World Steel Association has elected Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director, JSW Steel, as Chairman of Worldsteel for the year 2021–22.

Mr. Jindal is the first representative from India to occupy the position.

"The next few years look to be interesting for the global steel industry…Governments and policymakers have come to realize that in order to rebuild their economies, they need to increase their spending on infrastructure." Jindal said.
He added that Steel industry contributes 0.7% to the global output however it also contributes 7% to global emissions. This needs to change. We as an industry have a responsibility to shape the future in a meaningful and impactful manner.

The association has also appointed ArcelorMittal chief L N Mittal to the Executive Committee.
Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC) (India), represented by Sushim BANERJEE joins as an affiliate member.

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world, with members in every major steel-producing country. worldsteel represents steel producers, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes. Members represent around 85% of global steel production.
