July 2026 : Turning plans into reality with remarkable speed, electric vehicle manufacturer Zelio E-Mobility has officially commenced commercial operations at its brand-new production plant on Trichy Road, Coimbatore. First announced in March, the massive facility began assembling electric scooters this week on the very day it was formally inaugurated.

The rapid turnaround highlights Zelio’s disciplined expansion playbook. Moving from layout to live production in a mere three months, this marks the brand’s fourth commissioned facility within a tight setup window, joining their operational bases in Ladwa, Patan, and Cuttack.

Spanning 39,000 square feet, the new facility handles scooter assembly, storage, logistics, and regional operational support. Rather than manufacturing separate components, the plant focuses on putting together Zelio’s existing electric vehicle lineup right where regional demand sits. Previously, shipping scooters from northern bases like Haryana to southern hubs added heavy freight friction and delivery days. This localized hub fundamentally changes the dynamic for six states - Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and South Maharashtra.

At peak capacity, the plant can turn out 60,000 units annually. Zelio is scaling up deliberately, targeting an initial volume of 24,000 to 30,000 units per year before ramping up further. This strategic addition propels Zelio’s aggregate nationwide production capacity from 1,80,000 to 2,40,000 units per annum - a stunning 33 percent leap.

For everyday buyers in cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, or Kochi, the facility translates directly into shorter waiting lists and robust stock availability. Explaining the logic behind the location, Kunal Arya, Managing Director of Zelio E-Mobility, emphasized that South India represents a genuine growth corridor for the company, driven by rising demand for electric mobility and strong underlying market potential in the region.

Backing this expansion is stellar fiscal performance, with Zelio clocking an 81.8 percent year-on-year revenue surge to ₹313.68 crore in FY26. With plans to cross 550 dealerships and scale past 500 team members by the end of the financial year, the Coimbatore plant stands as a vital engine driving Zelio’s coordinated leap forward.
