January 2026 : In a historic leap for India’s private space sector, Azista Space successfully conducted the groundbreaking and foundation stone laying ceremony for its state-of-the-art Electro-Optical Payload Factory at the Gujarat Space Park in Sanand. The ceremony marks a pivotal milestone in the nation's journey toward becoming a global hub for high-precision space manufacturing.
The facility, situated at the Khoraj Industrial Estate, represents a strategic investment of ₹500 crore. It is designed to be a "one-of-its-kind" facility dedicated to the indigenous production of space-grade electro-optical payloads, which are critical for advanced surveillance, national security, and global space missions.
The ceremony was graced by Shri Arjun Modhwadia, Hon'ble Minister for Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat. Addressing the gathering, Minister Modhwadia remarked that Gujarat is successfully carrying forward the legacy of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai by evolving into a new national center for space technology. He noted that the establishment of this plant would take the resolve of a self-reliant India to new heights.
"This ₹500 crore investment is a strategic move toward building sovereign capabilities in military-grade electro-optical payloads," said Mr. Srinivas Reddy, Managing Director of Azista Space. "The facility will play a critical role in supporting national security, space missions, and advanced surveillance requirements, while positioning India among global leaders in this highly specialized domain."
The new factory is expected to significantly enhance India's indigenous manufacturing capabilities, reducing dependence on imports while generating high-skilled employment in the region. Azista Space has already signed MoUs worth over ₹500 crore with the Gujarat government to support this ecosystem.
Azista Space, an Indo-German joint venture between Azista Industries and Berlin Space Technologies, already operates a satellite factory in Sanand GIDC with a capacity to produce 50 satellites annually. This new expansion reinforces Gujarat's status as a leading hub for strategic industries and high-technology manufacturing.
