SiSoc and the MIC 3.0 Journey

The winners for the recently concluded third edition of Manufacturing Innovation Challenge were selected on the basis of their innovative technological solutions to some of the complex use cases put forth by large scale manufacturing organizations.

As part of the use case addressed to SiSoc Semiconductor by Titan, the watch manufacturing giant wanted to convert their analog watches to smart ones, especially for some contactless transactions, e.g. contactless payments, metro stations, smart homes, etc.

This was addressed by the team through a customary miniature NFC chip set inside the analog watches. However, the main challenge in keeping a radio frequency reading part like the NFC (Near Field Communication) device inside the watches was its interference due to the metal parts, etc. Thereafter, the solution provided for filtering any metal interference through the use of a insulation material with magnetic permeable substance that will be fabricated along with the NFC chip set.

The Team and its Offerings

Started in 2017 by a team of three passionate professionals, Sisoc Semiconductors Technologies is a semiconductor and embedded service company. With a highly experienced team in design and verification, it is one of the premiers in design and verification experts with experience in design and cutting edge verification using the latest methodologies. Apart from ASIC/SoC design verification services, the promising new age start up also provides services related to Physical Design and Verification, Design for Testability (DFT), FPGA Emulation and Validation, IoT & M2M, embedded softwares, etc.

SiSoc is one of the pioneers in LoRaWAN Wireless technology, which is the main backbone for low power consuming IoT-based communications. To begin with, the niche segment for the company was smart meters, mainly smart water meters for utility companies, multi-family residential apartments and commercial buildings. These smart meters helped in monitoring water consumption on an individual house basis. Thereafter, upon acquiring a strong customer base, the team went on to focus on energy retrofit meters. Interestingly, one of the main problem statements that the SiSoc team intends to address is to retrofit the existing water and energy meters with smart functionalities. The retrofitted smart meters would eventually cost one-fourth as much as the actual smart meters.

In order to address the issues related to the manual reading approach for energy and water consumption in manufacturing companies, the team at SiSoc is in the process of designed a concise audit system package for end-to-end water management and energy consumption tracking through retrofitted smart meters. The energy module of the package is particularly useful for legacy organizations who are currently working on digitizing their machines. This module will replace manual readings with realtime consumption tracking with cloud storage for the data generated by the retrofit wireless smart meters.

The core team at SiSoc includes Hari Babu (Co-founder & CTO), Sudhakar S. (Co-founder & Director) and Suresh CA (Co-founder and Director) - all of whom have extensive experience in the designing and verification domain. The leadership is currently focused on serving utility companies with their game changing smart metering and many other bespoke solutions.
