“Our partnership with Tata Steel is a significant milestone in scaling up the adoption of low-carbon zinc and reinforcing greener supply chains across India’s industrial ecosystem." - Arun Misra, CEO - Hindustan Zinc

March 2026 : In the world of heavy industry, "green" isn't just a color - it’s the new gold standard. In a landmark move for India’s industrial landscape, Hindustan Zinc Limited and Tata Steel have announced a strengthened partnership to scale the use of EcoZen, a pioneering low-carbon zinc solution.

This isn't just a corporate handshake; it’s a significant pivot toward decarbonizing the backbone of global infrastructure. Zinc is the unsung hero of the steel world, providing the galvanizing shield that prevents corrosion. By switching to EcoZen, that shield now comes with a much lighter environmental footprint.

Produced using renewable energy, EcoZen is Asia’s first low-carbon zinc. It boasts a carbon footprint of less than one tonne of CO2 equivalent per tonne of zinc - roughly 75% lower than the global industry average. For downstream players like Tata Steel, this translates to avoiding approximately 400 kg of CO2 emissions for every tonne of steel galvanized.

Mr. Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, highlighted the strategic nature of this shift: "EcoZen represents our vision to offer sustainable metal solutions that support the evolving needs of global manufacturing. Our partnership with Tata Steel is a significant milestone in scaling up the adoption of low-carbon zinc and reinforcing greener supply chains across India’s industrial ecosystem."

The collaboration builds on a 20-year relationship between these two titans. By integrating EcoZen into Tata Steel’s Sahibabad plant, the duo is tackling the notoriously difficult "Scope 3" emissions - those produced within the value chain.

Mr. Ranjan Sinha, Chief Procurement Officer at Tata Steel, noted: "Tata Steel congratulates its strategic partner, Hindustan Zinc, on the delivery of Ecozen (a pioneering environment friendly Zinc metal) to our Sahibabad plant. This collaboration underscores our shared commitments to sustainable practices and advancing green technologies amongst our supplier eco-system."

As India continues its journey toward resilient, low-carbon growth, this partnership serves as a blueprint for how strategic metal innovation can deliver real-world climate impact.
