September 2022: The Indian automotive industry has celebrated World EV Day 2022 with great hope and passion. Leading companies have reaffirmed their commitments for making the transition to electric vehicles. For example, Tata Motors has committed to launch 10 EVs in different product segments, body styles and affordability levels. TI Clean Mobility has said that it is targeting the productive end of the mobility as India’s efforts to reach net zero carbon emissions by the year 2070 is greatly dependent on this segment and it makes more economic sense to the user for faster adoption. TVS is hopeful of India becoming the world leader in the electric two-wheeler segment. Start-up eAshwa Automotive believes that the rise of the EV segment has also created huge employment opportunities for unemployed youths and transitioned hand-pulled rickshaw drivers to e-rickshaws. Okaya EV is aligned with the Government of India’s efforts towards faster adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles and a 100 percent electric India by 2030. OTO aims to drive EV Adoption and reduce carbon footprint by about 8400000 kg/yearly within the next two years.

Pro MFG Media captures quotes from the cross section of the industry.

“World EV Day is indeed a special day for us, as we look back and reflect on our journey so far. We are proud to lead the EV market in India, with a lion’s share of 88 percent. As early entrants, we have shaped the market and seen it grow with Nexon EV and Tigor EV. Earlier this year, we had unveiled our 3-phased approach towards building a comprehensive EV portfolio. As we accelerate our future journey, we are committed to launch 10 EVs in different product segments, body styles and affordability levels.”

Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd.

“At TI Clean Mobility, our vision is to provide our customers with products and solutions that make economic and business sense and truly improve quality of life for all stakeholders. Our recently launched Montra Electric 3W is our first step towards welcoming and catalyse this EVolution. We are targeting the productive end of the mobility as India's efforts to reach net zero carbon emissions by the year 2070 is greatly dependent on this segment and it makes more economic sense to the user for faster adoption.”

KK Paul, MD, TI Clean Mobility Pvt. Ltd.

“I feel that more and more quality products and options are being made available to the customer today by various OEMs, which is key to making this sustainable EV progression in the two-wheelers segment. Along with that, the government’s policies have been a great motivator for customers to shift towards EVs in India. With our continuous effort in this journey to build consumer confidence step by step, I’m confident that the path for the Indian electric two-wheeler industry is resounding. I look forward to the next five years in this segment and am hopeful of India becoming the world leader in the electric two-wheeler segment.”

Manu Saxena, Senior Vice President, Future Mobility, TVS Motor Company

“With several favourable policies at the Central and State level to promote EV in the country, we expect a significant transition towards EV especially affordable electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers which are already seeing bridging the last-mile connectivity in rural and urban India. The rise of the EV segment has also created huge employment opportunities for unemployed youths and transitioned hand-pulled rickshaw drivers to e-rickshaws creating better and environment-friendly livelihood opportunities and improved health.”

Vikas Gupta, Founder, CEO & CFO, eAshwa Automotive Pvt. Ltd

“We are working relentlessly to contribute in the drive for a greener and cleaner India. In line with this commitment we are moving ahead with a great pace to meet this target by offering end to end sustainable e-mobility solutions consisting of but not limited to Electric Vehicles, EV Battery Swapping and Charging Solutions, and Energy Storage Solutions. At Okaya EV, our mission and vision are aligned with the Government of India’s efforts towards faster adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles and a 100 percent electric India by 2030.”

Anshul Gupta, MD, Okaya Electric Vehicles

“Government backed initiatives have a significant impact in the widespread electric mobility adoption. For instance, the Delhi aggregator policy mandating 100 percent electrification of cab and fleet aggregators, the FAME 2023 subsidies tripled, projected 9 times higher than last year, the boost towards domestic manufacturing and state government policies - No road tax and registration charges coupled with subsidies of other sorts is capable enough of enabling EV ecosystem in India. Furthermore, the roadblocks in EV adoption ie, affordability, range anxiety, safety concerns and charging infrastructure has been addressed in the Battery Swapping 2022 draft policy.”
