The Fourth Edition of the Pro MFG Plant Maintenance & Asset Management Summit held in Vadodara on 23 June 2023 was a roaring success.

June 2023 : Maintenance is today seen as a measure of management excellence. So, it is all the more important to integrate maintenance goals with business objectives. Therefore, it is critical to ensure that the plant and its assets perform safely, smartly and sustainably. In fact, it is important to create a maintenance system that is able to deal with not just organizational challenges but also with market dynamics. In this context, the fourth edition of the Pro MFG Plant Maintenance & Asset Management Summit 2023 (Vadodara Edition) was themed “Integrating Maintenance Goals with Business Objectives.” This Summit connected experts and experienced professionals for building the right maintenance strategy and for improving asset performance through tools, techniques and technologies.

The Summit was supported by MeitY- Nasscom Center of Excellence, Centre for Industry 4.0 (C4i4) Lab, CMTI - Central Manufacturing Technology Institute, IITI Drishti CPS Foundation and the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre, IIT-Madras.

The Right Maintenance Strategy

The first panel discussion focused on ‘Ensuring Safe, Smart and Sustainable Operations with the Right Maintenance Strategy. The distinguished speakers for Panel 1 included Sanathkumar M, Executive President & Whole Time Director, Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited, Manish Manek, Chief VLE, MG Motor India Pvt Ltd., Kavishwar Kalambe, Site Director, Archroma, Nisheeth Khandelwal, Engineering Head, Hindalco Belgavi (Aditya Birla Group), Arun Rajyaguru, Group Head Maintenance & Reliability, Deepak Phenolics Limited, and Anil NN, APM Enterprise Director, Field Sales, APJ, Aspen Technology Inc. The discussion was moderated by Niranjan Mudholkar, Editorial Director, Pro MFG Media. Panellists deliberated upon critical points like Maximizing Production Uptime & Equipment Performance, Reducing Maintenance Cost & Extending Equipment Life, Use of Technology in Achieving Maintenance Goals, Maintaining a High Level of Safety for People & Equipment, Using Condition-based Monitoring to Enhance Resource Efficiency, and Promoting Overall Reliability & Improving Customer Satisfaction.

Leveraging Data for Effective Asset Utilization

The second panel discussion of the Summit focused on ‘Leveraging Data for Effective Asset Availability & Utilization’. The esteemed panellists included Rishikesh Jaiwant, Sr. Director Manufacturing & Operations, Baxter Pharmaceuticals India, Manoj M Bedekar, Head- Reliability - Hazira, Operations, AM/NS India, Chetan Joshi, Head Continuous Improvement & Digitization, Tata Chemicals, Arvind Kumar Tiwari, AVP & Quality Head - Global Feeder Factory, High Voltage Products, India, Hitachi Energy, Harendra Singh Dagur, Site Head, SRF Limited, and Rakesh Bachani, Regional Sales Manager, Gujarat, Rajasthan & MP, General Manufacturing & Maintenance, Henkel Adhesives. This panel was also moderated by Niranjan Mudholkar. The panel speakers talked about important aspects like Analyzing maintenance records to identify the most common failure modes, Asset sweating to enhance productivity and decreasing costs, Using data for evolving from preventive to predictive to prescriptive maintenance strategies, Correlating the data into sensors that recognise a trend that can be used for identifying failures, Integrating legacy equipment with advanced machinery for data acquisition, Condition based monitoring, Converting data into information and using it to take right actions and Leveraging best in class software to bring predictability to maintenance efforts.

Presentations & Engagements

Jay Deepak Shah, CEO, M/s Jay Wood Industry, made an interesting presentation showcasing the progress of his organization and its vision. Immediately after his presentation, Mr. Shah also shared his journey through an interesting Fireside Chat. The Summit saw the official launch of the brochure of M/s Jay Wood Industry themed ‘Move The Impossible’! The company had also organized an exciting version of the Jenga game for the delegates on the same theme and got a huge response for the same.

The Summit also witnessed useful and practical presentations by Rahul Nambiar, Manager, Solution Consulting, APM, Aspen Technology, and by Rakesh Bachani of Henkel. During his impromptu and brief but insightful talk, Abhinav Chowdhary, Country Manager (South Asia), Aspen Technology, spoke about the importance of Digital Transformation in the context of the ‘Icons of Transformation’ coffee table initiative jointly done by Aspen Technology and Pro MFG Media.

Earlier, the Summit was kicked off with the informative opening note by Saikumar Shanmugam, Co-founder & Director, Pro MFG Media. It was anchored by Remya Nair (Head – Special Projects), while Roopal Mishra (National Business Head) engaged with the speakers in one-on-one interactions during the breaks. The backend of the show was managed by Ninad Dangre (Senior Manager - Special Projects). An active and involved audience made the Summit not only lively and interactive but also brought the best out of the overall platform.
