“From day one, our question was simple: how do we make biomanufacturing the default manufacturing mode globally? Our focus is to build the digital operating system that brings biology from lab to factory, making scale-up faster, smarter, and globally accessible.” - Dr. Pushkar Pendse - Co-founder & CEO, Lemnisca

December 2025 : Theia Ventures, an early-stage fund focused on Deeptech and decarbonization, has announced that it has led the pre-seed funding round for Lemnisca, an emerging Bio-AI company. Lemnisca is developing an AI-native operating system designed to overcome the critical scalability risk currently constraining the global biomanufacturing industry. PointOne Capital and Dr. Satakarni Makkapati also participated in the round. The investment addresses a major bottleneck in the bioeconomy: transforming laboratory success in biology into reliable, large-scale industrial production. While strain engineering has advanced significantly, industrial fermentation remains a "black box," sensitive to variation and slow to optimize. Lemnisca's platform tackles this by creating digital twins that simulate process behavior and adaptive models that refine operating parameters in real time.

Lemnisca’s hybrid framework integrates biology, reactor physics, and artificial intelligence, creating a continuous feedback system that accelerates the journey from discovery to commercialization.

Priya Shah, Founder & GP, Theia Ventures, commented on the strategic importance of the investment, stating, “We are delighted to be early partners in Lemnisca’s journey, where we firmly believe that biomanufacturing in today’s era needs advanced digital simulators that predict how microbial processes will perform before reaching large industrial scale. The team brings rich practical experience to support the symbiotic development of this product to be applied to nutraceutical markets.”

Lemnisca's founders, Dr. Pushkar Pendse (Co-founder & CEO) and Shilpa Nargund, PhD (Co-founder & CTO), bring deep expertise across fermentation science, reactor physics, and computational modeling. The team aims to establish biomanufacturing as the default global production mode.

Dr. Pushkar Pendse articulated the company's ambitious vision: “From day one, our question was simple: how do we make biomanufacturing the default manufacturing mode globally? Our focus is to build the digital operating system that brings biology from lab to factory, making scale-up faster, smarter, and globally accessible.”

Echoing the focus on precision and reliability, Shilpa Nargund added, “We are rethinking everything, right from lab workflows to model architectures. The goal is fewer surprises at scale and faster, repeatable success.”

By laying this digital backbone, Lemnisca aims to make industrial biology scalable, reliable, and economically viable, unlocking the potential of the USD 200 billion bioeconomy market projected by 2040.
