“India’s shipbuilding industry is witnessing increasing demand for technologies that enhance manufacturing efficiency and meet international quality standards. NIPPON CERAMO represents our commitment to bringing globally proven solutions to Indian customers. Beyond corrosion protection, its advanced formulation improves fabrication productivity, reduces rework, and supports efficient shipbuilding operations. This introduction will give us a way into the Indian marine sector and strengthen our commitment to India’s growing maritime industry.” - Subash Gaijes Selvaraj, President - Industrial Coatings, Nippon Paint India

Nov 2026 : Nippon Paint India, through its Industrial Coatings division, announced the rollout of NIPPON CERAMO, a globally proven shop primer engineered to strengthen steel protection and streamline domestic shipbuilding operations. The launch marks the company’s entry into India’s expanding marine coatings market.

Already established across international shipyards, NIPPON CERAMO is a high-performance, low-zinc inorganic pre-fabrication primer designed to shield steel during early processing while boosting downstream welding, cutting, and shaping efficiency.

India’s maritime push has created a surge in demand for materials that accelerate yard turnarounds without sacrificing quality. Traditional pre-fabrication coatings often degrade under high-heat cutting or release excessive fumes, creating extra rework and slowing throughput. NIPPON CERAMO targets these friction points directly, featuring heat resistance up to 800°C to curb coating damage and a low-zinc formula that minimizes zinc-fume generation and salt buildup.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Subash Gaijes Selvaraj, President - Industrial Coatings, Nippon Paint India, said: “India’s shipbuilding industry is witnessing increasing demand for technologies that enhance manufacturing efficiency and meet international quality standards. NIPPON CERAMO represents our commitment to bringing globally proven solutions to Indian customers. Beyond corrosion protection, its advanced formulation improves fabrication productivity, reduces rework, and supports efficient shipbuilding operations. This introduction will give us a way into the Indian marine sector and strengthen our commitment to India’s growing maritime industry.”

Compliant with key International Maritime Organization standards - including IMO MSC.215(82) and MSC.288(87) - the primer is tailored for commercial shipyards, ship repair hubs, offshore engineering contractors, and steel processors looking to elevate productivity.

By pairing Japanese coating technology with local technical support, Nippon Paint India aims to establish a firm foothold in marine protection and support the country's long-term maritime infrastructure goals.
