July 2025 : Primetals Technologies has been awarded a contract by JSW Steel Salem Works to implement advanced process optimization solutions at its plant in Tamil Nadu State, India. This significant digitalization project includes the installation of comprehensive process automation systems (Level 2) across the meltshop and casting areas. These upgrades are designed to increase JSW Steel Salem’s production consistency, improve product quality, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce production-related costs.

Automated Plant Operation
The scope of supply encompasses advanced process automation systems for the entire meltshop. This includes four ladle furnaces (LF), two vacuum degassers (VD), two energy optimization furnaces (EOF), and two 3-strand bloom casters. The new systems will enable autonomous operation, significantly minimizing manual operator input and stabilizing the production process through powerful metallurgical models and dynamic process control systems.

The intuitive user interface and well-balanced operator guidance will ensure consistent, reproducible results. This operator guidance feature is built upon standardized production processes and meticulous calculations of all process steps, including cyclic online calculation of key process parameters such as steel grade, slag composition, and temperature.
