The FAL will also be able to produce the military version H125M with a level of local manufacturing that ensures the Indian forces remain mission-ready at all times. It will also be a game-changer for the development of the civil helicopter market." - Bruno Even, CEO - Airbus Helicopters
March 2026 : In a historic leap for India’s aerospace sector, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Airbus have officially inaugurated the nation’s first private-sector Final Assembly Line (FAL) for the H125 helicopter. The facility, located in Vemagal, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, marking a "watershed moment" for the 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat' initiative.
This landmark partnership signifies the first time a private Indian entity will manage the full lifecycle - manufacturing, integration, testing, and maintenance - of a sophisticated rotary-wing platform. The H125, famous for being the only helicopter to land on the summit of Mount Everest, is perfectly suited for India’s "high-and-hot" environments.
The Vemagal facility is designed to produce the civil H125 and is poised to handle its military variant, the H125M. These aircraft will serve as critical tools for emergency medical services, disaster management, and regional connectivity under the government’s UDAN scheme.
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, hailed the project as a testament to India’s industrial evolution: "We are proud to establish the H125 Helicopter Final Assembly Line, a first in the private sector in India - a landmark step in the nation’s journey towards self-reliance in aerospace and defence. This facility reflects the growing depth of India’s industrial capabilities and the strength of our long-standing partnership with Airbus. Together, we are contributing to the creation of a globally competitive aerospace ecosystem in India."
Beyond civilian use, the H125M is expected to provide a decisive edge for Indian forces in high-altitude logistics and reconnaissance.
Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters, emphasized the strategic nature of the platform: "The inauguration of the H125 FAL is a defining step towards India’s civil and defence sovereignty when it comes to vertical lift capabilities. By establishing this facility with the Tata Group, Airbus is offering the Indian market a versatile and competitive platform with unrivaled performance that is ‘Made in India’ and tailored for missions across the country’s unique topography. The FAL will also be able to produce the military version H125M with a level of local manufacturing that ensures the Indian forces remain mission-ready at all times. It will also be a game-changer for the development of the civil helicopter market."
With the first ‘Made in India’ H125 expected to take flight in early 2027, this collaboration - alongside the existing C295 transport aircraft project - cements a robust, world-class aerospace ecosystem on Indian soil.
