April 2026 : In a significant boost to India’s "Make in India" electric vehicle (EV) narrative, global technology giant Valeo has officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing line at its Pune facility. The new line is dedicated to producing highly integrated 3-in-1 e-Axles, a sophisticated system that combines the motor, inverter, and reducer into a single, compact unit.
The inauguration saw industry heavyweights in attendance, including Velusamy R, President of Automotive Business at Mahindra and Mahindra Limited, and Xavier Dupont, Valeo Power Division CEO. The timing is critical; Valeo has been handpicked by Mahindra to provide the electric powertrain for its highly anticipated Born Electric platform.
The Pune facility in Lonikand is a marvel of modern engineering. It features automated lines for specialized U-Pin and Hairpin winding stator assembly and rigorous quality control systems backed by full digitalization. This localized production ensures that the next generation of Indian EVs will be powered by technology developed and built right here in the country.
Xavier Dupont, Valeo Power CEO, emphasized the strategic importance of the region: "India is a key region in Valeo’s ‘Elevate 2028’ strategic plan. Our investments in Pune supports our commitment to deeper localization of advanced technologies in India. By localizing the production of our highly integrated 3-in-1 e-Axle systems, we are strengthening our ability to deliver advanced technologies to our customers and contributing to India’s transition towards safer, and more sustainable mobility."
Jayakumar G, President of Valeo India, noted that this move brings advanced solutions closer to the doorstep of Indian OEMs. "The inauguration of this line marks an important milestone in Valeo’s journey in India. Our new e-Axle manufacturing line in Pune is a key step in our growth strategy. It reflects our commitment to bringing advanced technology solutions closer to our customers. We are proud to develop and manufacture this e-Axle for Mahindra’s Born Electric Vehicles and to contribute to the growth of India’s EV ecosystem."
With a legacy in India dating back to 1997 and a workforce of over 7,500 - half of whom are engineers - Valeo continues to pivot from traditional components to becoming a software-defined, electrification leader in the subcontinent.
