“We are seeing strong demand driven by the country’s energy transition, grid modernization, data center development, and the rapid expansion of the metro and high-speed rail segments. Our expanded facilities will ensure we meet this demand while enhancing our capabilities to serve other markets in the region.” - Morten Wierod, CEO - ABB

March 2026 : In a massive vote of confidence for the "Make in India" initiative, global technology leader ABB has recently announced a strategic investment of approximately $75 million (INR 620+ crore) for 2026. This capital injection aims to exponentially scale the company’s manufacturing footprint and R&D capabilities across five key Indian hubs, securing India’s role as a premier global export and production center.

The investment follows a robust 2025, where ABB funneled $35 million into the country, bringing its decade-long total investment in India to over $230 million. With nearly 85 percent of its locally sold products already manufactured within the country, the new funds will accelerate production for high-growth sectors including renewable energy, data centers, and metro rail.

“This investment in India is an important part of our strategy to support infrastructure build-out and growth in one of our fastest growing markets,” said Morten Wierod, ABB’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are seeing strong demand driven by the country’s energy transition, grid modernization, data center development, and the rapid expansion of the metro and high-speed rail segments. Our expanded facilities will ensure we meet this demand while enhancing our capabilities to serve other markets in the region.”

Sanjeev Sharma, Country Head & Managing Director ABB India Ltd. At ABB, we are committed to helping industries outrun delivering reliable, efficient products that provide for India’s power needs with less emissions. I couldn’t be more proud of our team and the great potential of our market in leading the way.

The $75 million expansion will be distributed across critical industrial corridors:

  • ● Bengaluru (Nelamangala & Peenya): $35 million combined to scale converter manufacturing for sustainable mobility and expand low-voltage drive facilities.
  • ● Nashik: $22 million to boost production of indoor and outdoor circuit breakers and SF6-free technologies.
  • ● Hyderabad: $12 million for a state-of-the-art R&D hub and high-power testing labs.
  • ● Vadodara: $6 million to scale synchronous generators and induction motors for core industries like metals and wind energy.

The expansion is expected to create over 300 skilled jobs in engineering and research, adding to ABB’s 10,000-strong Indian workforce. As India moves toward a greener grid and smarter cities, ABB’s "local-for-local" strategy ensures the nation remains at the heart of the global energy transition.
