June 2024 : The ACMA Automotive Think Turf 2024 was recently concluded in Chennai on June 14, 2024. The event brought together industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders from various sectors of the automotive manufacturing ecosystem. With the theme ‘Transformation with Excellence and Innovation’, the conference aimed to address the challenges and explore opportunities in India's rapidly growing automotive industry. The event was organized by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association and ProMFG Media.
The day began with a welcome address by Manish Kulkarni, Director, Pro MFG Media. This was followed by an inaugural address by Chris Sarvanan, Regional Secretary - ACMA Southern Region.
TR Kesavan delivers the keynote address
The keynote address was delivered by TR Kesavan, Group President, TAFE. Mr. Kesavan highlighted the future trends and strategic directions for the industry.
P. Kaniappan, MD, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems, delivered an insightful industry address that discussed the current state and future prospects of commercial vehicle control systems.
A special moment in the conference was the unveiling of the ‘The 2024 State of Design & Make Report’ by Autodesk. The report is a global, annual study for leaders who design and make. It identifies the most pressing issues shaping today’s businesses and helps leaders make informed, strategic decisions about how to prioritize and invest in the future.

The conference featured several panel discussions, starting with "Leadership Strategies for the Automotive Revolution," where prominent industry leaders discussed strategic approaches to navigate the evolving automotive landscape. The second panel discussion on "Achieving Manufacturing Excellence Through Digitalization" was chaired by Ravi Ramarao, Executive Partner, Mudita Strat-Aegis Consultants Pvt Ltd. Panellists included Sri Karumbati, Chairman, ACMA Digital Committee, ACMA, Ajesh Saklecha, Co-Founder, Ozone Motors and TRiDE Mobility, Balasubramanian Sriram, Regional Digitalization Leader, ZF India, G Vimalan, Vice President - IS Application, Brakes India, Vivek Mathanasekaran, Industrial Global Offer Development Manager, Castrol and Badrinath Kodandarama, Global Head – 5G Products & Solution Engineering Collaboration and Connectivity Solutions, TATA Communications.

Dr. S Devarajan, Senior Vice President, TVS Motors addressed the audience informing them on improving product quality through digitalization and the critical role that inter department collaboration plays in optimizing quality.
Industry presentations by experts such as Shubham Garg from Autodesk, S.N. Alagaraja from Castrol, Sowmya Thyagarajan from Foviatech, S. Ramanathan from Mitsubishi Electric and Srikumar Saganti from EDS Technologies provided deep dives into specific areas of automotive manufacturing and innovation. These presentations were highly insightful and interactive, offering reliable and advanced solutions to current challenges in the industry.

The third panel discussion was on "Leveraging Technology for Superior Quality in Automotive Production". This panel explored the integration of advanced technologies to ensure high-quality automotive production. Ashok Muthuswamy VP - BE, Sustainability & TQM, TAFE chaired the panel. The panel featured Shankar G Subburathinam, Engineering Manager Integrated Components and Solutions Division, Caterpillar, Anandanatarajan Venkataraman Director, Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering, International Markets Group & South America, Ford, Amara Venkata Subbarao, GM (EDS), ARAI and Arun Mageswaran, DVP - Head of Quality, Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre.
The final panel themed on "Building a New Age Workforce with Skilling, Reskilling and Upskilling," emphasized the importance of continuous workforce development to meet the industry's evolving demands. Prabhakar Kadapa, Partner & Director, Mudita Strat-Aegis Consultants moderated the panel comprising of T Prakash, DGM, Ashok Leyland, Manjunath Desai, Head - Projects & Sales, Saint Gobain India, Joseph Panakkal, Head HR, India Region, CVS Div, ZF Group and Cecil Premi, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Auto Skills Development Centre.
Industry delegates engaging with exhibitors
The event provided a forum for industry leaders and other stakeholders to connect, share ideas, and explore the latest technologies showcased by various exhibitors. ACMA and Pro MFG felicitated faculty and students of SRM University for their contribution and support in executing the event.
