October 2025 : In a major push toward sustainable mobility, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PHINIA Delphi India Pvt Ltd.

The partnership aims to collaboratively develop cutting-edge Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2ICE) featuring advanced direct injection technology. Beyond pure hydrogen, the two entities will also explore the future development of Gaseous (H2+CNG) Flex Engines.

The MoU was formally exchanged by Dr. Reji Mathai, Director of ARAI, and Mr. Stéphane Bourdillon, Director - ECU & Systems of PHINIA.

ARAI stated that this alliance is a significant step in fostering a collaborative ecosystem to drive carbon-neutral advancements. By leveraging hydrogen, the initiative aligns with ARAI's commitment to enabling safe, smart, and sustainable mobility for a cleaner, greener tomorrow. This project is poised to accelerate the introduction of eco-friendly propulsion systems in the Indian automotive market.
