January 2026 : In a major boost to India’s defense indigenization, the Aerospace Division of Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) has secured contracts worth approximately ₹300 crore under the government’s Emergency Procurement - VI (EP-VI) framework. The deal underscores the company’s rapidly expanding footprint in the unmanned and autonomous systems sector.
The contracts, aimed at meeting the urgent operational requirements of the Indian Army and Indian Navy, cover an advanced suite of indigenous unmanned platforms. These include: ISR Platforms - Omega One and Omega Nine (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) and Loitering Munitions: Bayonet and Cleaver. These systems have been specifically engineered to operate across India’s diverse and challenging terrains, providing frontline commanders with enhanced situational awareness and precision strike capabilities.
The announcement follows a high-profile validation of BFL’s technology. On January 15, during the Army Day Parade in Jaipur, the Omega One UAV was proudly showcased mounted on an upgraded BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle. This demonstration before India's top defense leadership highlighted the seamless integration of unmanned systems into mechanized formations.
BFL’s unmanned portfolio is moving beyond simple remote operation. The company is integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced autonomy, and data-driven decision-making to ensure these platforms remain survivable and effective in contested, electronic warfare (EW) heavy environments.
The achievement marks a strategic pivot for the Pune-based multinational as it diversifies into high-tech defense manufacturing. “This dual achievement securing EP-VI contracts and showcasing Omega One at Army Day reaffirms BFL’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat,” said Mr. Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman & Joint Managing Director. “We are proud to equip our Armed Forces with India specific, EW resistant, homegrown unmanned systems.”
With a defense order book now exceeding ₹11,000 crore, Bharat Forge is cementing its position as a cornerstone of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, leveraging domestic production capacity to meet rapid delivery timelines without compromising on reliability or scalability.
