This is our contribution to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Viksit Bharat." - Anant Ambani, Executive Director - Reliance Industries Limited
August 2026 : In a landmark partnership aimed at boosting India’s defense self-reliance, Reliance Industries Limited and British engineering giant Rolls-Royce have announced their intent to co-develop, manufacture, and supply a sovereign combat engine for India’s fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program.
Under the proposed collaboration, the two conglomerates plan to establish a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India. Intended as a center of excellence for advanced power and propulsion technologies, the facility will build end-to-end sovereign capabilities spanning design, development, high-precision manufacturing, testing, and through-life support. The initiative marks a significant step toward domesticating critical military technology for the nation's air power.
Highlighting the imperative of self-reliant defense tech, Shri Anant Ambani, Executive Director, Reliance Industries Limited, stated: "India’s strategic autonomy requires sovereign capability in critical technologies. Our intent with Rolls-Royce is to combine their world-leading expertise in advanced propulsion with Reliance’s technology, manufacturing, scale and execution capabilities to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India. Together, we aim to build an enduring national capability that can make India self-reliant and, over time, globally competitive in advanced propulsion technologies. This is our contribution to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Viksit Bharat."
Emphasizing the value of local industrial synergy, Tufan Erginbilgiç, CEO, Rolls-Royce plc, added: "I welcome the opportunity to join forces with Reliance Industries, bringing together our century-long heritage in advanced engineering and proven engine expertise with their homegrown leadership in Indian industry. Together, with our existing partnerships and capabilities in India, this marks a major milestone towards building a robust, self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in the country."
Beyond military fighter jets, the new Aero Gas Turbine Complex aims to unlock broader domestic capabilities across civil aviation, defense, and emerging propulsion systems, laying the groundwork for India to become a global hub for advanced aerospace manufacturing.
