July 2026 : In what is being celebrated as a landmark breakthrough for India’s railway manufacturing landscape, Hind Rectifiers Limited (Hirect) has secured two major orders from Indian Railways totalling nearly ₹120 crore. The dual win marks the company’s decisive expansion from manufacturing locomotive components into powering fully integrated passenger trainsets.

The contracts - representing two major "firsts" for Hirect - encompass the design, engineering, and manufacturing of complete electrical and propulsion systems:

1. 1.Namo Bharat (Vande Metro) Trainsets: Awarded by the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), this is Hirect’s first-ever contract to deliver an entire propulsion system and electrics package for a complete train set.
2. 2.Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU): Placed by the Modern Coach Factory (MCF), this marks the company’s first complete propulsion system order for MEMU trains.

This historic accomplishment represents years of focused technology development, engineering expertise, and credential-building. Crucially, it signifies a pivotal strategic pivot for Hirect - diversifying from traditional locomotives into high-speed trainsets, the core platform shaping the future of Indian passenger rail.

Designed, engineered, and manufactured entirely in India by the Hirect team, the projects showcase strong domestic technological capability under the nation's self-reliance mandate.
