February 2026 : In a significant move toward domestic defense autonomy, global engineering powerhouse FEV has secured a landmark contract from Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL). The partnership centers on the development of a high-performance, 600+ horsepower (HP) powerpack designed to anchor India’s next generation of armored combat vehicles.
As modern warfare demands greater agility and resilience, the new powerpack is being engineered to survive the world’s most punishing environments. FEV will leverage its global pedigree in powertrain innovation and systems integration to ensure the unit meets rigorous standards for power density and mission reliability.
The project is more than just a mechanical upgrade; it is a strategic alignment with India’s "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) initiative. By localized development of critical engine technology, the collaboration reduces dependence on foreign defense supply chains. “The collaboration with Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited underscores FEV’s strong engineering capabilities and our long-standing commitment to supporting advanced mobility solutions for defense applications,” said Sahil Dhuria, Director Business Development & Marketing, FEV India. “The development of this high-performance powerpack reflects both a strategic milestone for FEV and our dedication to contributing to India’s vision of technological self-reliance.”
AVNL, a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Defense, views this partnership as a vital step for its production units, including the Engine Factory Avadi (EFA). “The development of a 600+ HP powerpack is a key enabler for future armored vehicle platforms and requires a high level of engineering capability and system integration,” said Anurag Kumar Sharma, Chief General Manager, Engine Factory Avadi. “Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited is pleased to partner with FEV on this important program, which brings together global engineering expertise and local development objectives.”
With over 6,100 employees globally, FEV continues to transition its automotive expertise into the aerospace and defense sectors, proving that the road to a more secure future is paved with smarter, more powerful engineering.
