JSW Unveils AMPSTAR for Electric Buses and Heavy Trucks

September 2026 : JSW Group made a bold leap into zero-emission transport with the launch of its commercial electric vehicle brand, AMPSTAR: powered by JSW. Rolled out under JSW Greentech Limited, the brand debuts as a full-stack mobility provider designed to design, build, and maintain electric buses and heavy-duty trucks tailored specifically for Indian road and climate conditions.

The venture offers an end-to-end ecosystem alongside its vehicles, bundling charging infrastructure, fleet operating software, flexible financing, and after-sales support. Fleet operators can tailor vehicles with power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW, utilizing commercial models like leasing or Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) alongside traditional purchases.

Production will center at a massive 90-acre greenfield plant at AURIC in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Built with an annual capacity of 15,000 units, the facility features India's first pre-treatment and electro-deposition (PT-ED) process for bus manufacturing, an automated truck-cabin assembly line, and an integrated battery unit.

AMPSTAR’s initial portfolio spans 7-to-18-meter buses covering school, city, intercity, and employee transit, alongside heavy-duty hauling starting with a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer. Tippers and fixed-body dumpers will follow soon after.

Speaking on the vision behind the launch, Sajjan Jindal, Chairman, JSW Group, emphasized the broader national imperative: “When we decided to enter electric commercial mobility, I saw it as an act of nation-building - moving India's people and goods on power generated within India, rather than fuel sourced from outside. We cannot control global oil prices. But we can control how much we depend on them. Detailing the product lineup and local engineering, Sumit Mittal, CEO, JSW Greentech Limited, added: “AMPSTAR is our vision for electric commercial mobility, and today marks its beginning. We are designing, engineering and building these vehicles in India, from the ground up - our own drivetrain, our own software, using the best of technologies available, and built for Indian roads and operating conditions. On the bus side, our portfolio will span 7 meter to 18 metre buses, serving diverse applications including staff transportation, city, intercity and school mobility.
