Claimed to maintain performance levels up to 10,000 cycles, it uses nanotechnology

A new lithium ion battery has been launched in India and it is revolutionary to say the least. Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicines, a research institute based out of Kochi, has used nanotechnology to achieve a full-charging time of less than 10 minutes.

This new high-power, fast charging battery has been developed after two and a half years of research with the help of advanced Nanoscience technology, said Shantikumar V Nair, Director of Amrita Centre of Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine and Dhamodaran Santhanagopalan, Associate Professor of the Nano Energy division at the Center.

Nanotechnology has been used to engineer the surfaces to be used in the cells which enables the rapid charging feature. Tests and experiments have revealed that this rapid-charging feature could work effectively for up to 10,000 charging cycles. The rapid-charging battery technology has been the need of the hour for adoption of electricity, especially in mobility.

If proven successful in real-world applications like electric vehicles, India’s dream to become a battery producing hub for EVs will have a way of achieving it.
