May 2026 : Building a robust high-tech future requires not just ambition, but the right foundational alliances. Tata Electronics and ASML have recently announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.
Stepping into a shared vision, the two companies will focus on deploying ASML’s holistic suite of advanced lithography tools and solutions for Tata Electronics' upcoming 300 mm (12 inch) commercial fab in Dholera, Gujarat. This foundational partnership represents an US$11 billion investment designed to serve global customers across automotive, mobile devices, and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors. Beyond bringing high-end hardware to the region, the collaboration directly accelerates training of local talent, lithography-intensive skill development, and supply chain resilience.
Bringing immense energy to this tech milestone, Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, expressed great enthusiasm for the road ahead: “We are excited to partner with ASML, a company known for its innovation and leadership in lithography, and for enabling semiconductor customers globally. ASML’s deep expertise in holistic lithography solutions will ensure the timely ramp of our Fab in Dholera, create a resilient and trusted supply chain for our global customers, drive innovation, and develop talent locally. This foundational partnership with ASML brings a shared commitment to the highest standards of quality, yield, and manufacturing excellence, and it will go a long way in building a strong semiconductor ecosystem in India.”
Recognizing the immense potential brewing in the South Asian tech landscape, Christophe Fouquet, President & CEO of ASML, added: “India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor sector represents many compelling opportunities, and we are committed to establishing long-term partnerships in the region. Signing this Memorandum of Understanding today marks an important milestone, and we look forward to close collaboration with Tata Electronics and its broader ecosystem. We believe Tata Electronics is strongly positioned to realize its ambitions in expanding semiconductor capabilities. We are pleased and honored to contribute our technological expertise and to help nurture talent in India.”
Through rapid construction in Dholera, a strategic collaboration with Taiwan's PSMC, and this latest masterstroke with ASML, Tata Electronics is methodically filling the missing pieces of India's semiconductor puzzle. By prioritizing R&D infrastructure and a highly skilled domestic talent pipeline, this alliance is setting the stage for India to confidently enter the global microchip stage.
