January 2026 : In a move that redefines India’s role in the global energy transition, AM Green has signed a landmark long-term binding offtake agreement with German energy giant Uniper. The deal, involving the supply of up to 500,000 tonnes per annum of Renewable Ammonia (RFNBO), marks a historic first for the Indian semiconductor and clean energy ecosystem.
The agreement was exchanged between Mr. Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty, Founder & Group Chairman of AM Green, and Mr. Michael Lewis, CEO of Uniper. The exchange took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who is currently on a high-profile state visit to India.
The partnership establishes one of the world’s first large-scale green ammonia supply corridors between India and Europe. The ammonia will be produced at AM Green’s Kakinada facility in Andhra Pradesh, where the first phase of 0.5 million tonnes is expected to go live by 2027.
The leaders welcomed the agreement as one of the largest under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. By producing ammonia that is fully compliant with stringent European RFNBO (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin) standards, AM Green is positioning India as a strategic supplier for decarbonizing "hard-to-abate" sectors like heavy industry, shipping, and chemicals.
"This partnership is a milestone for India's role in the global energy transition," said Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty. "AM Green's renewable ammonia is designed to meet stringent European RFNBO compliance standards. This is achieved through our unique firm and dispatchable clean electricity solutions. It is enabling multiple downstream sectors to lower their emissions significantly for India and now for the World."
Michael Lewis, CEO of Uniper, noted the strategic value for Europe: "This agreement with AM Green Ammonia is a key building block in our strategy to provide our customers with reliable access to renewable and low carbon molecules at scale. Green ammonia stands out as one of the most promising solutions to decarbonize CO2-intensive production of chemicals and fertilizers."
This milestone deal effectively signals India’s transition from an energy importer to a dominant exporter of clean molecules, securing a resilient, low-carbon future for both nations.
