“By successfully testing over 4.25 million engines using zero-emission Cold Bed Engine Testing technology, we have significantly advanced our commitment to eco-friendly manufacturing - curbing over 2 million kg of CO₂ emissions and optimizing efficiency with US $1 million in operational savings."- Mr. Gopalakrishnan CS, Whole-time Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer, HMIL

June 2025 : Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recently announced a significant sustainability achievement, having successfully tested over 4.25 million engines using its innovative Cold Bed Engine Testing technology. This revolutionary process entirely eliminates the need for fuel, coolant, and water during engine performance assessments.

Introduced in 2013, the Cold Bed Engine Testing system allows HMIL to evaluate engine performance using electricity, often from renewable sources, instead of traditional fuel-based methods. The system employs smart sensors to analyze key quality parameters with precision and without generating any emissions.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan CS, Whole-time Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer, HMIL, underscored the significance of this milestone. "At Hyundai Motor India, we constantly push the boundaries of innovation to deliver world-class quality while championing sustainability," he stated. "By successfully testing over 4.25 million engines using zero-emission Cold Bed Engine Testing technology, we have significantly advanced our commitment to eco-friendly manufacturing – curbing over 2 million kg of CO₂ emissions and optimizing efficiency with US $1 million in operational savings."

The impact of this breakthrough is substantial:

● Zero Emissions: Eliminating fuel use has prevented 2 million kg of CO₂ emissions, contributing directly to cleaner air.
● Significant Cost Savings: This innovation has saved HMIL nearly US $1 million in operating expenses.
● Enhanced Efficiency and Safety: The fully automated, fuel-free process ensures superior efficiency by eliminating manual judgments and is inherently safer than traditional combustion-based testing.

HMIL's fully automated, zero-emission engine testing process reflects its unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation. As the company celebrates its 30th year of 'Make in India, Made for the World,' this achievement reinforces its resolve to develop cleaner, more efficient technologies for the future – both in terms of products and manufacturing processes.
