September 2026 : Merck has officially expanded its manufacturing facility in Jigani, Bengaluru. The expansion significantly enhances local production of essential chemistry and biology materials, reinforcing India’s position as a global hub for life science innovation and manufacturing.

Building on the site’s established chemical manufacturing strengths, the upgraded facility introduces local biological buffer production. This addition allows Merck to provide biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostics, and research sectors with faster, more reliable access to the key building blocks of discovery. By localized production, the facility reduces lead times and supports customers seamlessly from early-stage R&D through to commercial manufacturing.

The move closely aligns with the Government of India’s Make in India initiative, aiming to decrease reliance on imports while strengthening regional supply chain resilience across the Asia-Pacific region.

The inaugural event was attended by key dignitaries from government, diplomatic, and industry circles, highlighting the strong bilateral cooperation driving the project. Key attendees included Ms. Gurneet Tej, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT); Mr. Alexandre Callegaro, Minister Counsellor, German Embassy, New Delhi; and Mr. Vinod Subramanian, Senior Vice President, Invest India.

With continued support from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, the German Embassy, the Government of Karnataka, and broader ecosystem partners, Merck’s expanded Jigani footprint sets a strong foundation for future technological and biopharmaceutical growth across India and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
