August 2025 : The Sanmar Group has officially announced its entry into the crude oil transportation sector with the inauguration of its new Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), the Sanmar Herald. This strategic move propels the group past the 1 Million Tonne Deadweight (DWT) milestone for its fleet, significantly expanding its capabilities in energy transport.
The Sanmar Herald, a double-hull VLCC, is a formidable addition to the fleet, measuring 333 meters in length and 60 meters wide. It is propelled by a powerful 43020 BHP Hyundai B&W 6S90 MC-C main engine, making it the largest vessel in Sanmar's shipping portfolio. The tanker is designed to provide cost-effective and efficient transportation of crude oil both across India and globally.
Group Chairman Vijay Sankar emphasized the significance of this expansion: “The Sanmar Herald is a significant addition to our fleet, propelling us past the 1 Million Tonne DWT milestone and accelerating our mission to address national energy requirements through cost-effective shipping solutions.”
In line with Sanmar's commitment to eco-consciousness, the Sanmar Herald incorporates advanced technologies such as wake equalizing ducts and Propeller Boss Cap Fins. These features are designed to reduce fuel consumption and drive energy savings, underscoring the group's continuous efforts towards a greener tomorrow in its operations.
